Bigger Picture Moment ~ Island Getaway

Welcome to Bigger Picture Moments, a place where we step back and take in life. There are moments where we're so caught up in it all, the hectic mind boggling pace of the day. We encourage you to take this opportunity to take a moment and view the Bigger Picture. Whatever that means to you. A moment where you recognized the role your faith plays in your every day life. A moment where you take note of motherhood and the importance of what you are doing. A moment that made you stop and smell breathe in the bigness of it all. The hugeness that is life and the small moments adding up to one huge Bigger Picture.

We hope you'll join us. Take a few moments. Think about your week, and pour however little or much onto a page. Then share. Tell us your moment. Link up this week at Hyacynth's, grab our button, and share your Bigger Picture Moment. And while you're at it, share the love and check out at least one other participant's moment.

Next week I will be hosting Bigger Picture Moments. Keep an open mind and heart throughout the week and come back to participate again or for the first time! All are welcome!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earlier this week the kids and I ventured an hour and a half north, hopped on a ferry by 9:15 (a.m.!!!) and arrived on a picturesque island to visit Maegan and her family who were visiting said island for the week.
{Fynn & Rayne... their faces crack me up!}
We were greeted with huge smiles and big hugs, open arms and flowers hand picked by two precious little girls who gave attention freely. We were all instant friends {and yes, Brent, I'm including you!}, which is funny to say, because Maegan and I have been online friends for a while. But we took that connection, that spark of common interest and goals and creativity, to the next level. And it was effortless.
The day was spent at the beach and at their rental cottage. The kids entertaining themselves with buckets of water, rocks to sort and climb, and sand to sculpt. Mac n' Cheese, apple slices and juice boxes for lunch. Parental guidance given to all children by all adults, showers and baths and changes of clothes. All familiar and almost routine, the bonds of childhood and parenthood. Rolled eyes and silent smiles and nods of understanding.
By the end of the day all were exhausted, my kids were at their breaking point, and we slowly meandered back to the ferry to say our goodbyes and exchange hugs and tired smiles. It was a bittersweet parting; I left wanting to spend more time, my kids left in dire need of a nap. But we were happy. Content.
{The fabulously creative and beautiful Maegan, who cannot be mad at me for posting her picture as I know she took mine... and if you hang out with a blogger and she takes your picture, chances are...}
And on the ferry back it hit me like the strong salt air coming off the water. This is why we do it. This is the reason we spend hours at the computer uploading pictures, writing blog posts. This is why blogging is always somewhere in our minds. The connections. Not the number of comments you receive, the stats that can ruin our good intentions, not the blog fame that some are after. But for me, and for so many, it's the personal connections and community that blogging can bring that makes it worth so much.
This weeks Bigger Picture came to me on a ferry boat after having left a sweet friend, knowing the connections we've made over the past several months were real. As are so many.
  1. Oh! We're eagerly anticipating our own hour-and-a-half (south, for us), and ferry trip to the same island to see the same friends. Thanks for capturing it so beautifully!
  2. I love the pictures! I was especially moved by the picture of the two girls huddled together, lost in the world of Crayola.
  4. I have so much to say, but I promise to be brief!
    First, I could NOT stop smiling during this entire post. Just couldn't contain myself, and I even giggled outloud seeing Maegan's picture because she's never in pictures at her blog. I am so SO happy you two got to meet IRL.
    And, oh, yes. I'm seriously tearing right now. THIS is exactly why I blog, as you know. Community and friendships are so precious, and it's my passion to make meaningful connections and help others do the same.
    This is the MOST excellent BPM, Corinne. Seriously. You're just speaking to my heart with this one.
    And those pictures! I love them all. So wonderful and filled with great memories.
    End novel. <3
  5. Oh Corrine, I am jealous, in a good way : ) I want to meet Maegan...and some other Flickr/blogging friends! I don't think anyone lives anywhere even remotely near me...!!!! I also want to hop on a ferry and go to the ocean...that's not gonna happen either!
    What a great day, it's fun seeing your pictures and seeing the kids together. So cool! And yes, the connections, the friendships, that's what it's all about!
  6. You've brought me to tears. You know how much I've thought about this issue, and I suspect will continue to. I've taken a few of my online friendships into real life ones and I've been further blessed when they've flourished. It's truly amazing. Well said Corinne.Thank you for saying this here. I can hardly wait for when we get the chance ourselves. Really, truly!
  10. You are so right - I started blogging for my daughter. To save and share her memories with friends and family but it opened up this whole new and unexpected community to me. It's been quite a lifesaver on many occasions to have these virtual friends, and for that I'll always be grateful. Blogging has worked out in so many ways - more than I ever dreamed of. So glad to have found you as well.
  11. What a wonderful post in which you capture a beautiful memory and a crystalline truth about blogging. I'm going to bookmark this page so that I can return the next time I am at a loss to explain why this place has come to mean so much to me. Thank you, sweet friend!
  16. And this is exactly why I'm SO excited for Blogher. I know these friendships I've formed are real, but to meet in person makes it that much MORE real. This was beautiful Corinne. The pictures and the thoughts!
  17. These are really beautiful pictures!! I would love to know what camera you're using (Or I guess its more important to ask which lens?) I just got a new CANON DSLR (my first) for Mothers Day and have NO idea how to use it - what I've taken so far looks NOTHING like what you've posted here. Hopefully my pics will look as beautiful as these at some point!
  22. oh i love this! it's so true! i love the blog world, i am still new to it, but it has already open up a side of me that has been missing since college. I moved out to California away from all my best girlfriends (including my mom ), i have my best friend (the hub) but i have really missed connecting with other females, moms, artists. And i have found that here! it is so true,that IS why we do this, this blogging...for the connection and friendship and inspiration. wonderful photos! it looks like you had an amazing time! thanks for sharing Corinne
  23. You're right, Corinne. I remember why I started blogging (it had something to do with a Bar Mitzvah...), and then I remember why I revived it later (that had something to do with writing and "getting my name out there"). But, really, what I found is priceless. Friends.
  24. This is so wonderful. And so true. I found after I started my blog that I would actually try new things, embark on new adventures, in the hopes that it would give me a fresh place to start on my next entry. Those risks, all in the hope for more connection as you said, pay off every time. So it comes back in so many different, glorious ways, this writing-of-the-blog. And Corinne, your photographs--they are some of the loveliest ones I've seen on any of these blogs. You have a gift that way.
  25. so glad you stopped by my blog today. this was a delightful post.
    last week my oldest daughter asked me if blogging was a hobby. i had never thought of it that way but it is. it is a hobby that causes me to be intentional about capturing moments. the community i have come to know as a result of that has been a blessing.
  26. Rocks, whether I'm sorting them or climbing them, bring children and mothers together instantly. Sand, to sculpt and feel with my toes, makes the stories flow easily.
    Adults, commenting to kids, last names melting away as easily as those things sculpted in the sand...I understand all of it. And love it.
    Thank you.
  27. What a great post! You hit the nail on the head. It's really all about the connections.
  28. Yes! You captured the community building perfectly! Trying to explain why I went to a blogging conference to my other friends was nearly impossible. Once you have made the connections, meeting these fabulous ladies (and men) is just natural.
    I am so grateful to you for capturing what so many of us feel.
  29. These pictures are great. But what's even better is your reflection on the reason we blog and the wonderful connections we make. So true. Thank you to you and your cohort for starting Bigger Picture Moments! I love it - can't wait to read more.
